ODP Award winner 2016

Sarah Garvey has become the 8th graduate from the Sheffield Hallam University ODP course to receive the annual 91吃瓜网award for academic achievement. Congratulations to Sarah who has now taken up a full time post in Barnsley.

South African Veterinary and Dental Awards for 2016

Simon van Heerden from Medequip has presented the 2016 Annual Swann Morton Veterinary Surgical Prize to winner Dr.Rosalia Bruggemann whilst Quenton Greene did the honours for the Dental Award presenting it to Dr.Guilmerme Rodrigues de Franca.

83% of NHS Facilities fail to comply with Sharps Regulations.

An inspection report issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the body responsible for the initial introduction into UK law of the Health and Safety (Sharps Instruments in Healthcare Regulations) in 2013 and the subsequent compliance of NHS facilities across the United Kingdom, highlights that more than 80% of the 40 sample organisations audited during 2015/16 were showing breaches in the sharps regulations.

Silver Scalpel Award 2016 Winner

This years 40th Anniversary conference of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT ) was held at the Liverpool AAC, 18th-20th March. At the charity gala dinner hosted in the Crypt Hall of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral the nominees for the coveted Silver Scalpel Award were announced by Mr. David O'Regan who first established the idea back in 2000 given his own passionate interest in training. The winner Mr Gareth Griffiths was clearly overwhelmed on receiving the trophy which is now recognised globally within surgery circles.

Inaugural South African Surgeons Award

The South African Society of Surgeons in Training (SASSiT) have mirrored the Silver scalpel award presented annually by their UK counterparts at Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT). The inaugural award has been presented to Professor Thifhelimbilu Luvhengo currently the Lecture / Clinical Head of Department of Surgery at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

"The Scalpels in Italy do not cut anymore"

Diego Piazza, President dell'Acoi the Italian Association of Hospital Surgeons stated in a recent press release that "The scalpels in Italy do not cut any more." These were the findings from a survey of the members Acoi and involved thousands of surgeons throughout Italy.
